Edo State Police Command has placed a ban on the Ekuochi/Okeshi masquerade festival in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
A statement by the Edo State Deputy commissioner of Police, Abubakar Mohammed says the ban is necessitated by the violence that is usually associated with the festival.
The statement which noted that arrangements have been concluded for the commencement of the festival this Thursday recalled that previous celebrations of the festival led to bloodshed, loss of lives and property which led to the ban of the masquerade festival in 2014
The statement explained that an appraisal of the security situation in Igarra revealed that the town is yet to recover from the aftermath of the recent bank and armed robbery which claimed several lives the atmosphere is not conducive for such celebration which antecedents is associated with blood-letting.
